She Wants, and possibly the Women's Coffee House. Precise use of the space has not been finalized, but there is a substantial amount of room and great potential. One room, a large meeting room/small concert hall, may be used for meetings, conferences, performances, etc. A smaller room will be What She Wants' layout space and possibly the lending library and reading room (see separate notice on this page). The remaining two rooms will house the Women's Wholistic Center, including counseling rooms, a meeting space, sauna, and Jacuzzi! The Committee is now in the process of determining the most creative use of the space to serve a wide variety of functions and needs.

Many local groups are currently operating out of people's homes with no centralized, accessible space, and little opportunity to share resources such as staff, phones and information. By offering the stability of shared space at affordable rates, the hope is that the community will expand and strengthen. Initially, the bulk of the rent and maintenance will be provided through individual donations. The. Committee projects that, within two to three years, a substantial enough endowment fund will be. established to support the space financially..

Lending Library

Cleveland will soon have its very own women's lending library. The Library will be at the Civic, and books will be available to all women for a minimal cost, on a sliding scale down to zero, The money will be used to buy new books at your recommendation or to replace badly damaged books. Books may be borrowed for two weeks and can be renewed at the end of the two weeks. There is a limit of three books at a time per woman, but all rules are flexible.

Donations of books to the Library would be much appreciated: The Library will be opening this fall; hours will be announced later. The Library will be à part of a What She Wants reading room where various feminist papers and magazines will be available. If you have any questions or would like to donate books, please write Debbie Gross, c/o What She Wanis, P.O. Box 18465, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 441:18:

If your group is interested in sharing this space,LETTER

whether for meetings, workshops, or on a more permanent basis, please contact The Women's Building Fund at P: O. Box 18129, Cleveland Heights, Ohio 44118. The committee is also seeking additional contributors. To make your pledge, use the form above:

Dear What She Wants:

We feel the need to clarify some information regarding Women Against Violence Against Women (WAVAW) in Cleveland due to the action by WAVAW. at the Barnard College Feminist and the Scholar Conference on Female Sexuality.

We use the flame WAVAW due to its clear description of our intent and purpose. We have no input in the decisions and actions of any other WAVAW group. At this time, we are exploring what being a WAVAW affiliate means, especially in terms of actions that attract national attention, i.e., actions that we may be associated with by virtue of the name WAVAW.

C

Although several of us are. uncomfortable with automatic affiliation via our name, after much discussion we chose not to change our name at this time due to local recognition we have established. In general, we felt our community standing was not af fected, either positively or negatively, by the actions of any other WAVAW group. We feel we have the ability to keep the women's community clear regarding our separateness from other WAVAW affiliates while realizing that media coverage of women's ac tions is so meager that the Cleveland community is by and large unaware of such actions.

We do not have consensus regarding the issues raised at the conference...For this reason, we cannot clearly state at this time Cleveland WAVAW's opinion regarding the conference and the leafletting of it. Because several of us were.upset about the leafletting and the part the so-called anti-pornography movement groups played in it, we wanted to make it known that the action taken was not indicative of the opinions of all women associated with the anti*pornography movement.

Editors' Note:

Sincerely,

A Cleveland WAVAW

The "leafletting" WAVAW refers to was a flyer called:" "We Protest" put out by the Coalition for a Feminist Sexuality and Against Sadomasochism. The Coalition, made up of Women Against Pornogrphy (NY), Women, Against Violence Against Women (LA) and the New York Radical Feminists, charged that "represented at this conference are organizations that support and endorse pornography; [and] promote sex roles and sadomasochism...." The leaflet went on to name conference leaders and describe their affiliations. The Coalition passed out the leaflets to participants before the Conference.
